The Fairy-Queen - SOLD OUT

Summer Opera Course
June 22, 2019
Ganz Hall

Don’t miss this single semi-staged performance by the students and faculty of Haymarket’s fourth annual Summer Opera Course. Henry Purcell’s spell-binding The Fairy-Queen was the most lavish and expensive English semi-opera of the 1690s and has held the stage ever since. Chock full of zippy tunes, bawdy comedic vignettes, and elegant fairy dances, Purcell’s enticing score evokes both the story and atmosphere of Shakespeare’s masterpiece A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Directed by Drew Minter and choreographed by Sarah Edgar with musical direction by Craig Trompeter. International lute soloist Nigel North and harpsichord virtuoso David Schrader lead the orchestra. Professional dancers from the Haymarket Ballet Company join in the fun.
